Jennifer Somes Chope

Maintaining an art studio in Detroit, Michigan, Jennifer Somes Chope paints in oil following the tradition of earlier representational artists and focusing on still life and landscape. She is a third generation artist; both of her grandfathers were artists. Her father was an engineer by profession and so she is especially attracted to the arrangement of things, and color, light, shapes, reflections, shadows – the dance of light and color between objects and their surroundings. “Painting for me is a joyous affirmation of life and its inherent beauty; an opportunity to ‘swing my arms and swing my mind’.” She continues her art education by traveling around the country to study with various other established artists
